Abstract

The fractional composition of the chamber product of sulfide flotation was investigated. Grain size of the product varies from 0.2 to 0.05 mm. The characteristic of mineral composition showed that forsterite content is about 53%. The amount of other silicates (pyroxenes and garnets) is more than 20%. Two morphological generations of baddeleyite have been identified, it will be necessary to take into account physical and technological properties of the generations when developing technological solutions for gravitational separation of the chamber product of first sulfide flotation. The baddeleyite of the first generation is characterized by a translucent light brown color, in contrast to baddeleyite grains of the second generation, which are brown, almost black in color. It was shown that the fraction of baddeleyite of the second generation with more coarse thick-tablet short-prismatic grains accounts for about 15-20% of the total baddeleyite contained in the sample. The results of segregational separation of baddeleyite product of sulfide flotation are presented. It was shown that the use of hydraulic separator with inclined plates provides recovery of fine baddeleyite particles into heavy fraction. Main factors determining the process of separation in hydraulic separator are revealed. The use of further table concentration to separate the heavy fraction effectively provides a rough baddeleyite concentrate containing more than 90% of ZrO2. An increase of its quality to 95.2% of ZrO2 was achieved by the use of magnetic separation with a magnetic field induction of 0.6 T.
