INFLUENCE OF PHYSICAL-MECHANICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF COAL AND OVERBURDEN ROCKS ON THE EXCAVATION PROCESS
Abstract
The quality of bucket wheel excavators (BWEs) operations is largely influenced by the physical-mechanical (structure, mineralogical composition, plasticity, anisotropy, degree of fracturing etc.) and technological properties (compressive strength, tensile strength, shear strength, compaction, consolidation, cutting resistance etc.) of the rocks. If the excavated materials are relatively homogenous, without intercalations with excessive cutting resistance, it is not difficult to conduct the technological process. In the case of occurrence of such intercalations, these properties become critical for a good management of the excavation process. In this paper, the relevance level of the influence of these characteristics was identified, analyzed and established (on a scale from one to ten) of each critical property on the difficulty of excavation. This approach is more relevant to analyze and highlights the variability of loads on the bucket wheel, which exists even in rocks with пїЅnormalпїЅ resistance, and increases dramatically in cases when encountering rocks with пїЅexcessiveпїЅ resistance.
