GIS TOOLS IN THE RESTORATION OF HISTORIC PARKS ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE WARMINSKO-MAZURSKIE VOIVODESHIP IN POLAND
Abstract
Historic parks are an important element of Poland's cultural landscape. Unfortunately many of these entities require urgent conservation intervention. The research presents the possibility of using GIS tools in the process of restoration the facilities. For the analysis were selected parks in Olsztyn, Mortegi, Boze and Patryki. In the article are described selected features of GIS tools that improve the preparing process of restoration projects and limits occured during using this type of software. Restoration of historic parks is a long-term process and requires a lot of experience. Use of GIS tools allows to short considerably the design process, where a number of analyzes of the inventory should be carried out, for example: species stratigraphy, age stratigraphy, landscape analysis and tree management. The essence of the research was to streamline the design process. GIS tools are particularly useful for parks with a large number of dendrological objects. The article presents the strengths and weaknesses of software and presents exemplary spatial analyzes made for selected parks. The problems related to the transformation of spatial data set into the GIS environment are also presented. Using the tools described in the article man can significantly improve the design process and therefore it requires popularization and implementation.
