GIS SYSTEM TO PREDICT FOREST FIRES CAUSED BY LIGHTNING ACTIVITY: CONCEPTUAL BASE
Abstract
Thunderstorm activity is the main natural cause of forest fires occurrence. Lightning discharges are divided into cloud-to-ground and cloud-to-cloud. The higher the current, the higher the probability of fire in the forest. Geographic information systems are a convenient and multifunctional means of visualization and geospatial data analysis, including the level of forest fire danger. It is necessary to design the structure and information flows in such a GIS system. The development of such a GIS system is carried out for a typical territory of the Tomsk region (Timiryazevskiy forestry). For the territory of the Timiryazevskiy forestry year high in the number of lightning strokes in the WWLLN data is 2015. The smallest number of the lightning discharges observed for the 2010, 2012 and 2013 include implementation of a GIS system using the host systems ArcGIS and QGIS. Both options involve the implementation of their own software tools for the implementation of mathematical models that provide the calculation of the level of forest fire danger in the controlled forest-covered area. For this purpose, it is proposed to use the built-in programming language Python. The General scheme of the GIS system is presented in this paper.
