CURENT STATUS OF SOME STANDING WATER NATURA 2000 HABITATS FROM BANAT (SOUTHWESTERN ROMANIA)
Abstract
In this work we present the particularities of three standing water NATURA 2000 habitats from southwestern section of Romania (Banat region). This study brings information about the current status of these three habitats and based on this appropriate management measures can be taken or reviewed. The studied habitats are: 3130 Oligotrophic to mesotrophic standing waters with vegetation of the Littorelletea uniflorae and/or Iso-to-Nanojuncetea, 3150 Natural eutrophic lakes with Magnopotamion or Hydrocharition and 3160 Natural dystrophic lakes and ponds. In the analysis of each habitat, we used the scheme proposed by Gafta & Mountford (2008), discussing: general description of the vegetation, cenotaxons, abiotic characteristics and origin, characteristic plant species and types of habitats spatially associated with the one in question. The situation of wet zones is very sensitive in this region, due to hydrological works in the past, but also due to the current climate disturbance, significant pressure from agriculture and overexploitation. We considered 8 sites (1 SAC, 4 SCIs, 3 SPAs) and 17 plant associations (nomenclature by Coldea, 1997). Following our observations, we noticed that the vegetation of these habitats is influenced by water trophism, their floristic structure is not complex; the plant species present are fewer and their populations are large (e.g. Lemna minor L., Potamogeton natans L., Trapa natans L.). Careful monitoring of these habitats is very important because they are already highly fragmented, very fragile and the anthropic pressure is very high.
