ASSESSMENT OF BIOFUEL PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY ON THE AGRICULTURAL FARMS IN ROMANIA
Abstract
In Romania, most agricultural farms are subsistence farms and have to face two major problems: lack of capital and impossibility to sell their own production on the market. In the farm production costs, a significant share is represented by the fuel costs (Diesel oil); that is why the authors of this paper evaluated the possibility to lower the costs on the agricultural farms by producing biofuels for the farm own needs. The research work took place at the Banat University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine ?King Michael I of Romania? from Timisoara within the Center of Excellence ?Romania?s Sustainable Rural Development?. The main methods used rely on the quantitative and qualitative analysis, on data processing and interpretation, graphic interpretation, as well as on the statistical and mathematical calculations. The energy crops are an alternative energy source from which green biodiesel or biodiesel is obtained on the farm, contributing to farm economic efficiency increase, on one hand, and to the replacement of classical energy sources on the other hand, making it possible to replace the fossil fuels by biofuels. The research work proved that biofuel production on the farm can take place under economic efficiency conditions, in the situation in which the farmer has the possibility to grow energy crops on an area of at least 100 hectares or to process the production of other farmers in the area.
