NUMERICAL MODELLING OF RIVER SEA INTERACTION
Abstract
This study deal with numerical investigation of river sea interaction. River mouth modelling is one of the most complex problem in coastal engineering because of meteorological and oceanographic uncertainties. Although river-sea interaction has been complex problem, these areas have significant importance for human life such as dense population near this places, environmental importance, transportation etc. During the riverпїЅsea interaction numerical modelling just one defined or steady condition modelling is never enough for decision. For better and robust results, different scenarios such as flood or drought in the river, storm condition and different wave directions in the sea should be taking consideration for sufficient results. In the presented study, numerical modelling of river mouth was discussed by based on Kurbagli Dere, which is located in the Anatolian part of the Istanbul and reaches to the Marmara Sea. Numerical model was performed for different hydrological such as flood, drought and mean discharges and various oceanographic conditions like waves and sea currents. Numerical model results was taken consideration for environmental issues such as salt water intrusion thru the river, sediment flux in the river and near river mouth also coastal area near river mouth. Results also support river reclamation works such as dredging river mouth also optimal dredging depth for bank stability and rehabilitation of river discharge.
