Abstract

Coatings based on microspheres are internationally recognized for their heat insulation characteristics, due to the specific properties of their nanoparticles ? ceramic, glass, silicon microspheres - even when the layer thickness has only 1-2 millimetres. Taking into account the high price of such products, the research studied, through specific experimental laboratory works, the possibility of obtaining a new and cheaper heat insulating product, by introducing kaolin as a filler. The experimental results showed not only maintain but also improve insulating properties of the original product, considered in this research as "base component". If the slightly rough aspect of the coating, resulted from the interaction between kaolin and the humidity of the basic component, is not an impediment, it may be considered that, by making such a kind of product, on the one hand it could be provided a new way to use kaolin, as a natural, ecological and cheap raw material and, on the other hand, can be a way to obtain a new type of heat insulating coatings with ceramic microspheres, more efficient and cheaper, by means of the proportions of the basic materials. In turn, this research will be the basis for new experimental studies on other types of construction products.
