GEOMECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF ROCKS FROM SIBIU COUNTY USED IN CONSTRUCTION
Abstract
The paper summarizes the results of assessme nt of geo mechanical characteristics of rock samples collected from the Sibiu C ounty: Valea StrГўmbului-Rasinari and Valea Marajdia. The rock characteristics are infl uenced by climate factors, in particular temperature and humidity. When the phenomenon of frost occurs, rock stretches and some strains are acting that lead to a deterioration of the structure and internal stability, thereby reducing the characteristics of resistance and strength. Within this scope, several types of rock we re taken into account, for which the required geo mechanical characteristics in construction use were assessed. In this respect, the paper deals with the physical, m echanical, elastic tubes and technology on the rocks dry, saturated, and subjected to 25-50 cycles of freeze-thaw. Coefficients were determined by soaking, gelivity and values obtained were compared with those required by standards. Results of laboratory experiments on rock samples were analyzed in terms of framing the rules stipulated in standards for possible used like construction materials.
