DETERMINATION OF HULL PARAMETERS AND TOTAL RESISTANCE OF ROPAX VESSEL AT THE PRELIMINARY DESIGN STAGE
Abstract
This article identifies the special features of the preliminary designing of RoPax vessels. The hull geometric parameters have been defined as well as the functional parameters of the designed vessel, in consideration of the volume/capacity criterion. The preliminary assumptions have been adopted. T he preliminary calculations algorithm has been proposed, a statistical analysis has been conducted of hull geometrical properties of 20 similar vessels and the relationships reflecting the connections amongst them were determined. A model vessel has been s elected. The newly designed RoPax parameters have been preliminarily calculated. The estimation of lightship weight and the deadweight has been made in compliance with the preliminary assumptions and model vessel parameters, meeting the buoyancy criterion. The vesselпїЅs total resistance calculations have been based on Holtrop Holtrop-Mennen statistical method including all its components. The calculations have been made for the four variants, two values of block coefficient and two hull shapes, with bulbous bow and without. The differences in the values of the total resistance and their components have been confronted for the particular variants of vessel hull design. The final conclusions have been formulated.
