CLEANING OF MBES DATA USING CUBE ALGORITHM
Abstract
Contemporary measurements of the bottom during hydrographic sounding use modern multibeam systems and precise positioning one. Determination of coordinates of acoustic wave's reflection points on the bottom is based on transformation coordination sets: connected with positioning system and echosounder's transduces(s) based on CoG - Center of Gravity and spatial orientation determined by MRU - Motion Reference Unit.Despite using mentioned devices (systems), in the geospatial data cloud there are incorrect points, which cannot be corrected, so they are cleaned. From among cleaning methods the CUBE algorithm is one of them. CUBE stands for Combined Uncertainty and Bathymetry Estimator. The CUBE algorithm is a fast gridding method that makes use of the TPE values that are calculated during the recording of the data by means of a-priori SD values. The CUBE algorithm can generate so-called alternative hypotheses for the seabed. For each hypothesis the hypothesis count, hypothesis strength and hypothesis uncertainty will be calculated and presented. These three items will indicate how reliable each hypothesis is. Since CUBE is a gridding method it is not suited when a high detailed result is required. CUBE is more suited for gridding large areas in a very short time. In case high detail is required it is better to use Spline surface despiker algorithm. In the paper the algorithm and results of geospatial data cleaning process obtained by multibeam echosounder have been presented.
