Abstract

Maps are the fundamental documents supporting the process of crisis management. It is important that the events formed on them were presented in the most credible and legible way. Legible, meaning that they should depict credible spatial information on the basis of presented spatial data. Only such formulation guarantees aid of the highest quality and organisation of actions during crisis situations. They also constitute extremely valuable content showing spatial location of the threats which have already occurred, their density, which enables the spatial analysis of their causes and thereby undertaking steps preventing their occurrence in future. Fire Department plays a crucial role in the activities towards safety in the broad sense, therefore all the documents concerning threats, including the cartographic documents, enable the support for these activities in the sense of spatial references. The aim of the research is to determine which method of cartographic modeling of the threats connected with Fire Department interventions is the best for the cartographic presentation of such issues. Several methods were used to present of threats, including: methods of interpolations (Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) and Nearest Neighbor) and methods of nominal point symbol mapping, also signature (symbols) methods. The Surfer and ArcGis program were used, which are dedicated to versatile usefulness to visualization of space data. Threat maps of the research area were created on this basis. However, not every method of cartographic modeling is suitable for visualising phenomena of this kind. It has been determined that the best cartographical method of the threats connected with Fire Department interventions is the signature method. The goal was achieved through realisation of partial goals: collecting data and creating a coherent database, using the method to assign danger range to the events and then doing spatial analysis in order to select an appropriate mapping method for threat visualisation.
