MODELLING OF HOLLOW-FIBER MEMBRANE BIOREACTOR FOR CULTIVATION OF MAMMALIAN CELL
Abstract
Nowadays the great attention is paid to the cultivation of different mammalian cells. They can be used, for example, for vaccines, monoclonal antibodies or viruses production, in regenerative medicine, diagnostics, for clinical trials and etc. The application of modelling and simulation tools for these purposes is very convenient and perspective in order to decrease the experiments and therefore the total cost for the investigations. In this article, the process cultivation of CHO cells is considered in hollow-fiber membrane bioreactor (HFMB) with 20 microfiltration polysulfone fibers. CHO cells have been chosen as one of the widely used cells in different biopharmaceutical productions. The experimental investigations have been carried out in KoltzovпїЅs Institute of Developmental Biology (Russian Academy of Science). Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package has been used to analyze the fluid flows and key engineering parameters of HFMB including its geometry and kinetic dependencies of cell growth.
