THERMAL WASTE PROCESSING SYSTEM STRUCTURES. QUESTIONS OF LOCATIONS AND ACCESSIBILITY - POLISH EXPERIENCES
Abstract
The goal of this article is answering the question regarding the conditions that need to be met by thermal waste processing plants in terms of their location. Based on analyses of a set of operational Polish thermal waste processing plants, as well as structures which are not yet operational but that have a known location, the author performed research aimed at determining the accessibility of the abovementioned structures. The author also performed analyses regarding the areas in which thermal waste processing plants are being located. The research included the accessibility of the plants using various modes of transport and during various times of day, depending on traffic load. An analysis of the urban units surrounding thermal waste processing plants was also carried out. The research mentioned above made it possible to determine a reference field of Polish experiences to the experiences of other countries which are much more advanced in terms of the implementation of pro-environmental ideas, particularly in terms of solid municipal waste processing infrastructure, etc. The conclusions that were drawn and the observations that were formulated can be of use to administrative authorities during the placement of additional plants in Poland, as well as in other countries, which, similarly to Poland, are just starting out on their road from the process of stockpiling solid municipal waste to its thermal processing and the reclamation of resources.
