Abstract

The method for exploiting the coal layers by using the crazing and submitting the roofs of the mining works from the underground is an alternative applied on large scale into the brown coal mines from the main coal basin Jiu Valley situated into the S-W of Romania. The technology of individual supporting – by using the open circulation hydraulic props together with the linked metallic bars with blocking bolts and wedges, assume some great physical efforts and the factor of working security is not totally assured. The authors proposed themselves to implement a new product capable to eliminate the disadvantages mentioned above and to assure an important increasing of the quantity of the extracted energetic coal. In this context, it had been made the product called stepping bar type GEROM-GP 250/1200 whose functional model had been successfully tested into the tests stand of the GEROM – S. A. in Petrosani ( the most important producer of mining equipments in Romania) – and which it is now under experimenting in the underground at one of the subunits of National Coal Company in Romania – located in Petrosani town from the Jiu Valley mining basin.

The technology of individual supporting – by using the open circulation hydraulic props together with the linked metallic bars with blocking bolts and wedges, assume some great physical efforts and the factor of working security is not total ly assured. The authors proposed themselves to implement a new product capable to eliminate the disadvantages mentioned above and to assure an important increasing of the quantity of the extracted energetic coal. In this context, it had been made the prod uct called stepping bar type GEROM- GP 250/1200 whose functional model had been successfully tested into the tests stand of the GEROM –S. A. in Petrosani ( the most important producer of mining equipments in Romania) –and which it is now under experimenti ng in the underground at one of the subunits of National Coal Company in Romania – located in Petrosani town from the Jiu Valley mining basin. The regress recorded at the global level into the extractive industry, determined in most of countries that exploit the energetic coal a stagnation of the investments in the field of mechanization of the technologies – a well known process at the 6th – 9th decades of the last century. The present tendencies are orientated especially for finding some solutions that should presume less expenses of investments and that should lead simultaneously to accomplishing some figures of great production, even if this thing does not presume always also the following the reduce of physical effort by assuring all factors that guar antees the safety of the staff from the activities specifically to the underground work, into the mines with danger of firing and/or explosion of methane. In this context, in our country, mainly into the Jiu Valley coal basin – that assures 3.5 –4 millio n tones of pit coal every year –it was generalized during the last years the method of coal exploitation by using the technology of subminating the superior coal banks. The usual technology applied on large scale is in essence a combination between the cutting method of the coal face through classing process of cutting - shooting and subminating the roof of coal face by crazing with discharging and evacuating the coal in the area behind the individual supporting. The type of supporting is a classic one, individual, and use the open circulation pillars together with the link bars, of special construction. The evacuation of the coal away from the face coal is made usually with an easy chain conveyer. The equipments that are contained this complex of face coal and their main technical features are as follows:

  12. Open circulation hydraul ic props –type ATLAS S -250 - maximum working height -2500mm - minimum working height -1800(1600)mm - hydraulic course -700(900)mm - pretension force -152KN(at a pressure value of 16 MPa ) - bearing capacity - 300KN

  13. Link bars type GEROM GSA -1250S , GEROM GSA-570S - distance between the coupling axes -1250mm, 570mm - freedo m grades (up, down, laterally) - 7°, 7°, 5° - bearing capacity - 350KN - weight - 70kg, 49kg

  14. Scraper conveyer type GEROM TR-3 - capacity - 150to/hour - installed power - 22kw - chains speed - 0,8m/se c - type / no. of chains - 18x64/2 extreme - chase width - 596mm Into the fig.1 it is presented a classical individual supporting, containing the equipments mentioned above and that are manufactured by GEROM S. A. Petrosani. The site of these equipments into the mining work is made always in according to the enforcing monographies made by the miners. SGEM 200 6 - Section I 235 fig.1 A recent concern of the specialists from GEROM S. A. Petrosani presumed the replacement of the variant with individual supporting – mentioned above – with a modern ensemble called stepping bar type GEROM -GP 250/1200. This new product, manufactured also by GEROM S. A. represents a more efficient and safety solution in exploitation and for this reasons it is foresee n a large use into the Jiu Valley mines. The stepping bar type GEROM -GP 250/1200 is shown into the fig.2 and in the following there are presented the technical features of the product. : - maximum working height - 2500mm - minimum working height -2000mm - advancing step - 900mm - installing step - 800mm - bearing capacity - 1200KN (4 X 300 KN) - no. of bearing pillars/ type - 4 pcs. / ATLAS S 250 - working field of coal face catcher - max. 130° - minimum pressure of hydraulic agent - 16 MPa - pushing force/ attraction for stepping cylinders - 29.920daN/21.018daN - pushing force/ attraction for face coal catcher - 20.920daN/11.127daN - weight of stepping bar (including the ATLAS props) - almost. 1250 kg 6th International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM2006 www.sgem.org Int er nat ional Confer ence SGEM 200 6 236 fig.2 The hydraulic sche me of the stepping bar GEROM -GP 250/1200, with its help there is made all the cinematic functions necessary to the coal exploitation process from that mining work presented into the figure fig.3. SA. from Petrosani, presume an amplification of the mechanization degree by implementing the mechanical cutting method of the coal face with mining combines. In this case, the underground mining face coal complex where, excepting the steppi ng bar type GEROM -GP 250/1200 it can be used successfully the cutting combine with had type ESA - 60L (manufactured EICKHOFF – Germany) and the blinded conveyer type PF-23.0 (manufactured by WESTFALIA – Germany) or type TR-7A with necessary changing of the advancing system Eicotrak (manufactured by UNIO Satu Mare -Romania). This mechanized variant foreseen for nearer future – presumes to be equipped the face coals with special devices whose role is to push into the face coal the functional ensemble made from blinded conveyer and cutting combine. In this variant the working phases are in principle alike with the ones presented previously in fig. 4, specifying that in this situation the technological performances and staff security are at superior level. Final ly, the authors appreciate that the implementation of the new technology of supporting the face coals where it is used the exploiting method of subminating the coal banks –by using the stepping bar type GEROM –GP 250/1200 – will become shortly certitude. The good results obtained during the experiment into the underground in Jiu 6th International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference SGEM2006 www.sgem.org Int er nat ional Confer ence SGEM 200 6 238 Valley, confer real guarantees regarding the new product manufactured by our company GEROM S.
