MANAGERIAL DECISION MAKING FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEMS USING SIMULATION TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Nowadays, efficient urban transportation systems have a very strong impact on economic prosperity and development. The quantity and quality of transport infrastructure can influence attractiveness and desirability of urban regions for certain industries and can affect the quality of life of its citizen. Passenger transportation systems are characterized by complexity of its behavior and a high level of uncertainty; therefore simulation technologies have become an effective tool for their modeling and managerial decision making. Such models reflect all parameters of real passenger transportation systems and can be altered as new information become available due to application of step-by-step detailing of the simulated subsystems and iterative algorithm. In this paper, we have examined the problems of managerial decision making for passenger transportation systems with the use of simulation modeling. We have developed an information system of passenger transport network operation and development with the use of SIMUL8 software. The solution to this problem is obtained by solving of the following sub-problems: formal description of the structure and functional parameters of passenger transportation system; mathematical modeling of passenger transport network and an algorithm for simulation modeling. The initial data for the model was obtained during field research of public transport network of the city of Tambov (Russia) for a number of years.
