Abstract

The requirements imposed by Regulation (EC) 2003/2003 on fertilizers and those set out in Annex III of the Regulation, require tests and physico-chemical analyses for high ammonium nitrate-based chemical fertilizers. The physicochemical properties of ammonium nitrate, as well as a number of factors influencing the sensitivity to detonation, underline the importance of the thermal conditioning of ammonium nitrate according to temperature in terms of detonation risk. The RENAR accredited laboratory test on nitrogen-containing ammonium nitrate (min.28%), based on which the product is fertilized or not, is the detonability test, which involves the application of the PI-70 test procedure, respectively to perform five thermal cycles with a temperature gradient of 100C / hr, with temperature increases and decreases of between + 25 ° C and + 50 ° C and interchanges to keep it constant. After thermal conditioning, the sample is subjected to the detonability test by detonating it in the explosive test bunker. Depending on test results, it is determined whether the high nitrogen content of the ammonium nitrate tested, is intended for use in agriculture as a fertilizer or for other purposes If so, a certificate will be issued certifying compliance with the requirements set out in point 2 of Annex III to Regulation (EC) 2003/2003 on the non-explosive characteristic.
