THE EFFECT OF THE SHEET PILES WALL AGAINST SEEPAGE IN THE UTENA EARTH DAM
Abstract
A variety of failures occurs due to excessive seepage through the dam body during the design, construction and maintenance of earth dams. It happens because of various reasons: unsuitable dam location at construction site, unsuitable soil composition, interruption of construction technology, etc. Timely noticing of the reasons of seepage phenomena, monitoring and evaluation processes dangerous for structure, prediction of seepage path and the possible consequences for structure, protective measures against undesirable effects of seepage пїЅ these issues are important and relevant in order to avoid undermining, landslides and other deformations of earth dams caused by seepage. The analysis of anti-seepage effect of cut-off pile wall is performed. According to results of analysis of seepage process modeling in Utena (Kloviniai) earth dam with and without the installed cut-off pile wall was performed assessment of anti-seepage effect of cut-off pile wall. It was found that installation of imperfect cut-off pile wall partially reduces the flow of seepage.
