TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE APPLICATIONS OF NATURAL ZEOLITES IN HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS
Abstract
Zeolites are solids (hydrated aluminosilicate minerals) consist of interlinked tetrahedra of alumina (AlO4) and silica (SiO4). Zeolites are minerals with three-dimensional crystal structure (open crystal structure) built from the elements previously mentioned (Al, Si, O2). They are very stable solid substances with exceptional properties пїЅ they resist of environmental conditions, they resist high pressures, they do not dissolve in water, they do not oxidize in the air. Zeolite structure пїЅ пїЅframework structureпїЅ is one of the most interesting internal structure пїЅ zeolite can trap other molecules inside it. Currently, the worldпїЅs annual production of natural zeolite is about 3 million tones (China 2 million t, South Korea, Japan, Jordan, Turkey, Slovakia 85,000 t and the United States). Natural zeolites are used in almost all sectors of the national economy - agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture, water treatment, sewage treatment, air filtration, construction industry, adsorbent of pollutants and odors, and many others. Moreover, zeolites are effective, useful and popular especially in households. Domestic uses relate primarily to the odor and liquid adsorbing characteristics of zeolites. This paper describes the use of zeolites in households. The usage is divided into two parts - the traditional applications of zeolites and zeolite innovative applications in everyday life.
