Abstract

The European economy of the XXI century ap proaches new directions of orientation towards sustainability and competitiveness. The achievem ent of these goals is possible on condition that the joint efforts of the Member states’ economies are concentrated, through interdisciplinary and inter-state cooperation. The aim of this paper is to identify the common points of interest of environmental and economic approaches, based on: identifying the latest trends in European research concerning the modern concepts designed to promote the vitality of the European economy, es tablishing relevant correlations between the economic elements of study, in order to promote a new, modern and sustainable economy, as well as to overcome the barriers that prevent the European harmonization of studies concerning environmental and purely financial issues, ensuring the determining mains li nkages between different economic fields, which would lead to solving some problems arising precisely because of the lack of such linkages. Based on research of literature speciality, this paper started from the idea that the developed European countries reached a very high level of economic development precisely for the reason that they have gathered, under the same interests, economic and environmental issues and have realized the importance of the financial assessment of the latter.
