A DAMAGE IN A BUILDING EXCAVATION. REASONS AND LESSONS
Abstract
Authors consider a damage in a building excavation, which took place in June 2005 at the environs of Sofia. The slope of the excavation is protected by anchors and protective net but after the heavy rains during the whole month of June 2005 it begins to degrade. An emergency additional strengthening is made and the degradation is stopped. The paper considers the reasons for the damage and outlines the results of the investigations and laboratory tests made afterwards. The specific characteristics of the soil that brought about the damage have been found.
