BENTONITE LOCALITIES IN THE NORTH -BOHEMIAN BROWN-COAL BASIN AND THEIR POTENTIAL UTILIZATION AS CLAY SORBENTS
Abstract
A significant range of the landscaped damaged by brown coal mining is one of the base problems of the region of the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin. The proper application of fertilizable rocks to sterile and phyto-toxic sits is the condition of the success of reclamation works. Natural clayey sorbents are usually of very good use, but the North Bohemian Basin is quite poor with them. Bentonite deposits are significant exceptions. They are a part of tertiary vulcanodetritic strata of the subsoil of a coal seam. The article summarises their geological situation, basic parameters and the utility of excavated bentonite. Most attention is paid to nowadays mined deposits at \vCern\'y vrch u Braňan and Rokle u Kadan\ve. The second part of the submitted article deals, in front of all, with the already made and perspective bentonite application in the reclamation works. The possibilities of using bentonite from \vCern\'y vrch locality at the recultivation of phyto-toxic areas on the reclamated localities of Severo\^uesk\'e doly a. s. Chomutov mining company. This work has originated by the contribution of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic in the frame of the solution of the grant project No. 105/06/0124 “The Research of the Occurency and the Possibilities of the Exploitation of Claystone with Sorption Qualities from the Sokolov and North Bohemian Basins.”
