Abstract

In the light of the compilation of a new guide for computing risk maps for landslides, along the methods using GIS-based platforms, it is also mentioned the possibility of deriving the map using the so-called "deterministic approach". The challenge stays not only with the fact that actual geotechnical information from the site is required, at a level of detailing good enough to cover all analyzed area, but also the method itself. The classical computation of the stability of a certain site is to use either the Limit Equilibrium Method (in various hypotheses) or/and Finite Element Method for finding the critical zone of landslide triggering. The paper shows an approach where, using automated scripted runs of a Limit Equilibrium Method software over multiple cross-sections (out of topographical-geotechnical profiles), a risk map is built. The paper details the choice for the sections and how to obtain a well spatially-spread information with a method that is dedicated finding a unique critical value of the factor of safety (FoS). For one profile, a comparison is made for different hypotheses of the Limit Equilibrium Method models.
