Abstract

Researches of ilmenite reduction kinetics defining intensity of process course are carried out for many years. Main characteri stic is concentrate reducibility degree, characterizing process speed in concrete conditions. Ilmenite reduction process is very complicated, and its speed depends on many factors - oxides nature, temperature and degrees of concentrate grinding. Iron complicates ilmenite concentrate use in its chlorination process for obtaining titanium tetrachloride - an initial product for obtaining of spongy metal titanium. So technology of solid-phase carbothermic reduc tion and liquid-phase reductive smelting of titanium-containing concentrat es in electric furnaces for preliminary elimination of iron into separate phase is widespread in titanium subindustry. It was important to carry out kinetic research es of ilmenite thermal reduction because it is necessary to eliminate iron by its oxides carbothermic reduction into metal with subsequent removal of the last one by electrosmelting for the purpose of obtaining high- quality titanium product.
