THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Abstract
In the present circumstances, where environm ental problems are on the rise and occupy the agenda of the societies in the different ways, education is on the suggested solutions to these problems. The addition of the environment as subject to the educational programs, applications and processes is very important in every phase of awareness of the environment. The aim being such, nowadays countries include environment consciousness contents in their syllabus th e efforts of the new generations being informed about the environment is not even adequate. Furthermore, for people who have completed their education, the infusion of environmental consciousness as lifelong education is important. In this parallel, the efforts of the participation of national and international Non-governmental organiza tions and the educational policies of governments to run alongside with each other. For example, Greenpeace organization raises awareness to the environment along with their demonstrations and voluntary work. In other words, our demand for comfortable life causes more consumption of natural and energy resources. In this respect, the dilemma of production and environment comes up. It is very important to create an awareness for environment so that, we could establish healthier renewable natural resources and production chain. In this matter, we will study education and environmental awar eness relation with examples. We will give importance to examples which set a model, from different periods.
