ASSESSMENT OF GEOPHYSICAL DATASET IN THE CENTRAL SEGMENT OF THE SOUTHERN CARPATHIANS ROMANIA
Abstract
In this work, I used the data from the geophysics portal of the Geological Institute of Romania (maps, sections), field measurements as well as the WGM 2012 model from the International Gravimetric Bureau. The measurements carried out in the south of the Southern Carpathians were represented by magnetometric measurements. Corroboration of geophysical information with geological and tectonic ones led to the confirmation of deep structures. The geological sources, which give geophysical samples specific to each geophysical method, are characterized differently depending on their size, depth, density contrast and magnetic properties. We filtered the geophysical data, using moving averaging and the calculation of trend surfaces, thus deciphering the depth of the geological sources, taking into account the depth of investigation of each geophysical method. Within these filters, we used moving windows of different linear (1D), rectangular (2D) and paralelipiped (3D) dimensions. I calculated the coefficients of the trend surfaces for different degrees of the polynomial, so that comparisons could be made between the results obtained through different types of filters and the analytical extensions in the upper half-space (with the Laplace equation) and the lower half-space (with the Poison equation). We also used the Pearson correlation coefficient, in moving windows of different sizes. The data obtained from the digitization of maps regarding the depth of the Conrad and Moho surfaces, as well as those of the geoid and quasi-geoid, represented valuable information in the study of deep tectonics in the study area.
