Abstract

A few years ago, I start asking myself how my profession (i.e. accountant) will change under the IT impact and how AI would affect humanity. I consider this article provides important answers for the accounting profession since last technologies are capturing new horizons and particularly, accounting is changing under the IT signature. This paper intends to emphasize the changes which accounting will support under the emergence of new technologies and how much AI marks accounting in this technological environment. After a careful exploration of relevant articles concerning this paradigm shift in accounting, literature asks for further and deeper investigation on this topic. Moreover, ICAEW (2018) asks for a better understanding of how AI can be part of solving accounting and business issues. This article aims to respond to this crucial and necessary question. I choose to interview the CEOs of small IT companies who have good knowledge of AI. The research methodology applied finds support in the qualitative research method in order to respond to this inquiry. Additionally, future directions about how AI through IT is implemented in accounting as an important key in the future revolution of financial area are revealed.
