Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study of a model site of the settlement Ksizovo-1 (XXIV-XXIII centuries BC) in the forest-steppe zone. The research object is located in the Lipetsk region on the floodplain terrace of the left bank of the river Snova, right tributary of the Don River. The aim of the study was to assess the variation of chemical and enzymatic characteristics of the cultural layers of the settlement in the profile and in the plan over the entire area of the excavation. During the excavations, soil samples were taken from each square meter of the cultural layer at four levels of Stripping. Organic and mineral forms of phosphates, magnetic susceptibility, and enzymatic activity were determined in the selected samples. Statistical processing of results was performed. Comparison of the obtained data allowed us to determine the features of chemical and biological properties of cultural layers corresponding to the main period of settlement functioning and the period of desolation. It was found that during the period of the monument's functioning, there was a decrease in biological activity and a sharp increase in the intake of phosphorus into the soil, primarily due to the mineral forms of phosphates ? ash and bones. During the period of desolation of the settlement, the share of organic phosphorus increases due to the activation of all biological processes at the site of the monument. In the layer that underlies the cultural layer, the anthropogenic footprint is only visible in certain areas where an increased content of organic phosphorus is recorded.
