Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the organic facies characteristics of the Miocene Units in Northern Manavgat (Antalya), Tu rkey. The study area is located in the Western–Central section of the Taurus Belt. Miocene units mainly consist of three formations which are Upper Burdigalian–Langhian Oymap ınar Limestone, Langhian Geceleme Formation and Serravallian–Torto nian Karpuzçay Form ation. The Units consist of sandstone, siltstone, claystone , limestone, clayey limestone and reef limestone. Total organic carbon content (TOC) of the units lie between 0.01 and 0.42 %. Generally the Hydrogen Index (HI) ranges from 100-800 mgHC/gTOC and Oxygen Index (OI) is high (up to 628 mgCO 2/gTOC). Thermal maturation (Tmax) value (343-591oC) indicate mature and immature zone. Production Index (PI) is between 0.17 and 1.00. Organic matter is composed predominantly of autochthonous amorphous material with a minor contribution terrestrial material (herb aceous, woody and coaly organic matters). Kerogen in the deposits is Type III as i ndicated by Rock-Eval pyrolysis and organic petrographic data. Both microscopic investigation and Rock-Eva l pyrolysis data the Miocene sediments of the Northern Manavgat (Antalya) region within the CD and D organic facies. The organic matters of these facies are either highly oxidized or redeposited residual organic matter.
