Abstract
The study of ethnolingustics (also called cultural linguistics, linguistic culture studies), a relatively new discipline of an interdisciplinary nature, is currently explained by a number of factors related to the need of studying the relationship between language and culture. On the one hand, ethnolinguistics considers the cultural significance of language units and language concepts; on the other hand, it studies language as a means of cultural realization. Ethno-cultural education is aimed at the preservation of ethno-cultural identity within the framework of linguistic and cultural ecology, by introducing students to native language and culture with simultaneous mastering of values of world culture. This is an important part of the educational process within the conditions of implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard, in which the enlightening potential for the solution of problems of patriotic, spiritual and moral education is put. The paper shows how to apply methods of cultural linguistics to Mari ethnic folklore material and Mari language with the aim of revealing and analyzing traditional values of the community. The Maris are a small Finno-Ugric nation living in the Republic of Mari El and in some other regions of the Russian Federation. As a result of the use of linguistic and cultural methodology of learning the language and style of Mari folklore texts and its presentation during the educational process, students can get an in-depth understanding of such issues as the stylistic richness of Mari folklore genres, the place of folklore in the preservation and development of ethnic culture, the linguistic picture of the world and its ethnic characteristics, traditional values of the Mari community which constitute the leading markers of ethnic identity. Besides, the results of such research help to formulate basic principles of language ecology. To achieve the goal of the paper the authors use a combination of methods and techniques based on the systemic approach to the investigated phenomena. Componential and contextual types of analysis constitute the linguistic aspect of the research. The ranking of values in the descending order of priorities is achieved by quantitative calculations.
