Abstract

The engineering industry and foundry sector are at a crossroads between traditional manufacturing processes and modern technologies that are fundamentally changing the way metal components for the energy, railway, automotive, petrochemical, shipbuilding, and mining industries are manufactured. The starting point is a global PESTLE analysis of the industry as a whole (i.e., at both the European and Czech levels), which is then supplemented by the perspective of a specific representative of the engineering industry (the foundry segment), reflecting the most important problem areas and their connection to the industry as a whole. The primary research data consists of a combination of publicly available environmental indicators for the engineering sector, supplemented by a time sample of production or energy consumption for piece and small-batch production in the selected company. The uniqueness, specificity, and special added value of the research lies in the global strategic analysis of the sector as a whole and its connection to the basic environmental indicators of the selected company. In this way, both current problems and possible directions leading to their solution are identified. This approach allows for statistical analysis of energy consumption data, identification of the most significant trends, their interconnection and comparison, leading to the formulation of key industry changes and recommendations for further development so that this industrial segment can remain promising and competitive both in the Czech Republic and the EU.
