RESEARCH REGARDING THE MINERALOGICAL COMPOSITION OF ROCKS FROM SOME QUARRIES AND GRAVEL PITS FROM THE JIU RIVER
Abstract
Road structures construction and maintenance involves the use of large amounts of materials, including natural aggregates that occupies the largest share. On one hand the quality of natural aggregates, and other road ma terials, is decisive for the success of the technologies used in the road construction sector and on the other hand, the diversity, and number of the possibilities of purchasing and the number of producing units are more varied for natural a ggregates with possibilities to significantly influence the quality. In these circumstances, determining rigorously the quality of natural aggregates used in road sector is strictly necessary, usually with a periodic ity determined by each unit of production output. Depending on the physical-mechanical characteristics of each type of natural aggregate the possibilities to use them in the road sector are established.Specific determina tions to be carried out on natural aggregates and their recurrence intervals for regular checks and batch are referred by current standards that specify the limit values of physical-mechanical characteristics considered for each area of use. Natural aggregates from quarries mu st origine from magm atic rocks (granite, granodiorite, rhyolites, dacite s, trahite, diorites, andesite , gabbrouri, basa lt, diabase, dolerite, melafire), metamorphic rocks (gne isses, amphibolites, qua rtzites, crystalline limestone) and some sedimentary rocks (limestone, quartz sandstone, calcareous sandstone).
