Abstract

Production of biomass-plastic composites is one of the interesting recovery possibilities for waste biomass and HDPE material. The big issue in this research area is to produce the composites with acceptable and competitive level of quality which is determined through the final mechanical properties of composites. Meaning of this paper is to present the research finding for determination of the mechanical properties of waste raw materials based biomass-plastic composites. Raw material variables influence, especially (type of raw material, particle size, moisture content, etc.) can be recognized during the production of composites and very significantly effects also the operating parameters of the injection molding press. Using a variety combination of influencing variables can be improve the quality of composites samples from a mechanical properties point of view. Influence of monitored variables can be seen through the quality indicators; especially mentioned variables significantly influence the mechanical properties of composites. In this experimental research authors would like to investigate properties, behavior and application of composites based raw waste biomass (wood, straw, and hay) and recycled plastics (HDPE), instead of original (virgin) plastics (HDPE). The main aim of this paper is to present the research findings regarding the recycling possibilities of plastic and biomass raw wastes. Besides the main aim, the paper also presents the results of realized experimental research which dealt with the determination of relationship between material parameters and mechanical properties during production of composites, and mutual interaction between mechanical properties, type of the plastic matrix used in composites, biomass/plastic concentration ratio and particle size of biomass used in composites.
