TRAVEL COST METHOD OF EVALUATING CULTURAL ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
Abstract
Every agroecosystem presumably has the potential for providing some kind of outdoor recreation. We analysed the potential for recreation of National park (NP) Low Tatras. Forest ecosystems with mountain grasslands as a part of agroecosystems participate in the total cultural ecosystem value. Protected natural areas provide a wide range of benefits to the community. Among the benefits most commonly cited are those associated with the provision of tourism and recreational opportunities, as well as those associated with the provision of ecosystem services. We applied travel cost method to evaluate cultural ecosystem services of NP Low Tatras. The research was realized through a questionnaire during the summer and winter tourist season 2016. The target group were visitors. The females (56 %) slightly prevailed in the structure of the respondents. The average age of respondents was 31 years. The majority of respondents visited the NP by car (71%), and the highest travelled distance was 40 km and more. The average cost of a journey for visitor (including the cost of food, accommodation, transport, entrance fees) was 168 EUR. We confirmed the significant correlation between visitorпїЅs month income and travel cost.
