DETERMINATION OF THE RESOURCES OF SURFACE WATER BODIES IN THE ISKAR RIVER CATCHMENT FOR THE PERIOD 1991-2020
Abstract
The river Iskar is the object of study. The development aims to update the technological scheme of the resource of surface water bodies for a new reference climatic period (1991-2020) and estimate the annual average values at the end of each water body. For the study, 20 gauging stations were used, which currently represent the NIMH monitoring network in the catchments of the streams on which the resource is based. In terms of area, the stations cover the whole catchment relatively evenly. For the study, the annual mean water quantities from all stations-including a station at the Iliina River and a station at the Struma River with discontinuous observations-were used to confirm the relationships. One of the main tasks of hydrological research is transferring information from observed river reaches to unobserved ones. On the other hand, partial and, in most cases, unrepresentative information on water bodies is lacking or available, both within catchments and in water transfers between them. The use of such information, to the extent that it exists, does not enable the determination of the available water resource to water bodies. For this reason, transferring actual recorded information from gauging stations is the only possible methodological approach for determining the resources of surface water bodies. This paper proposes using the regionalization approach to determine the water resources of water bodies based on the recorded runoff at the hydrometric stations of the NIMH observation network.
