Abstract

Continental intraplate magmatism commonly leads to formation of subvolcanic complexes, for which it is important to characterize their mantle sources. It is necessary to distinguish between the effects on the mantle signature of fractional crystallization and the assimilation processes during magma ascent and its residence in the crust before the final emplacement. Elucidation of these processes requires besides information on Sr and Nd isotopic ratios also detailed geochemical data, especially information on concentrations of a wide set of trace elements. An excellent case area is provided by the Cenozoic subvolcanic rock association of the Roztoky Intrusive Centre in the Central Bohemian Massif, Czech Republic. In the present work, instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was employed in multielement analysis of fourteen rock samples from this area. Multimode INAA included short and long-time irradiation modes by either reactor-pile neutrons, or by epithermal/fast neutrons (ENAA) under a Cd shielding. The analyses enabled determination of about forty major and trace elements. The obtained data set was analyzed and the observed major geochemical patterns have been shortly discussed.
