EVALUATION OF THE QUARTZ DEPOSITS OF MARWIT ROD EL-LEQAH AREA, EASTERN DESERT, EGYPT, AS A POTENTIAL SOURCE OF HIGH PURITY QUARTZ (HPQ)
Abstract
This study presents an evaluation of the Egyptian quartz deposits from Marwit Rod El- Leqah area in the Eastern Desert of Egypt. These deposits are considered as a potential source of high-purity quartz (HPQ) for use as raw materials for special applications in high- technical industries. Geological description, whole-rock geochemical analyses of representative samples, study of thermal behavior of quartz through differential thermal analyses and measurements of some petrophysical properties of the quartz deposits of Marwit Rod El-Leqah area, were carried out to choose the suitable feasible dressing techniques to decrease their impurities and increase their silica content to match the hi-tech industrial requirements. The beneficiation processes applied on the studied quartz samples include froth Floatation, followed by wet magnetic separation. The beneficiated quartz is upgraded to match well with the technical specifications necessary for the high technical industries such as silicon metal for the manufacturing of semiconductor wafers and silicon solar cell production.
