Abstract

The work is devoted to historical retrospective on the main aspects of the modern concept of development of the world economic system. The relevance of research is due to the presence of environmental problems in the modern economy. The data on the impact of the concept of world development on environmental development are presented. The genesis of the development of the main scientific publications on the chosen research topic is presented. The role of such a non-governmental organization as the Club of Rome, which was created by influential businessmen, famous economists, scientists, politicians, and played a key role in modern research on the scientific understanding of the nature of world crises and possible ways to overcome them, is examined. Presented are materials on the role of world communities in addressing sustainable development issues at present. The authors analyzed and proposed key categories related to the sustainable development of regional socio-economic systems. The problems of the concept of "sustainable development" in relation to foreign and Russian scientific publications are analyzed. The question of the relationship of the process of "economic growth" of the modern economy and its sustainable development from an environmental point of view is considered. In conclusion, conclusions are drawn about the essential role of the needs of modern society (man) in the present and in the future, provided that environmental protection is part of the development of the concept of sustainable development that exists today. Practical conclusions are made about the appropriateness of further research in this area.
