THE ROLE OF MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND EARTH SCIENCES CURRICULA
Abstract
This research explores whether multilingual education can boost understanding and involvement in environmental and earth sciences. The central question is whether having different languages in schools helps students grasp different scientific ideas better. A mixed-methods approach was used, gathering qualitative data from interviews and focus groups with teachers and students. Academic performance and how engaged students were in multilingual classrooms were also measured quantitatively. It turns out that students in multilingual settings are generally more engaged and understand scientific concepts better than those in monolingual classrooms, especially when it comes to critical thinking and connecting different subjects. These findings are important because they suggest that multilingual education not only helps with academic success but also encourages a deeper awareness of environmental issues. The implications for healthcare are considerable; using multilingual teaching methods could create health professionals who are culturally aware and good at explaining complex scientific information to various groups. Therefore, this research points out systematically including multilingual strategies in science curricula, highlighting how they could improve educational results as well as public health knowledge and participation in environmental concerns
