Abstract

Groundwater filtration is a very complicated process determined by natural environmental factors and anthropogenic impacts. Credible predictions of impact of extortions on the groundwater environment require application of appropriate research methods which will enable detailed representation of the groundwater circulation. Such methods include numerical modeling of filtration processes and application of mathematical description of groundwater flow, based on assumed hydrogeological parameters and boundary conditions. Nowadays, numerical modeling of groundwater flow is a commonly used research method in hydrogeology. For modeling groundwater flow, software based on the finite differences method FDM, using Modflow simulators, is most commonly used. Programs for preparing models differ in their modes of operation. In the recent years, application of geospatial data has become increasingly important for the construction of groundwater flow models. Groundwater flow modeling programs can already include such capabilities; alternatively, it is also possible to prepare data in external GIS software and then to use such data to create tables used for modeling. The paper presents the process of using data prepared in GIS software for modeling in the Processing Modflow program. For the selected research area, a numerical model was prepared, subject to the calibration process. Calculations of water flow were performed using FDM method and obtained results were presented.
