Abstract

The studied structure is situated in the Carpathian Foredeep and past geological and geophysical prospecting have proven the existence of a large anticline formation with reservoir proprieties in the SW area of the structure. The prospecting and development stages for this particular reservoir started decades ago, however, recently there have been an intensification of seismic prospecting in order to asses the possibility for an increased production. A large gravimetric study was done at a regional scale that established the existence of a gravimetric anomaly in the studied area. As such, seismic studies were done to explore the area further. The main objectives of this paper are: creating a geologic-geophysical model based on the new data obtained from recent studies, recalculating resources based on the new data, to analyse the current state of production and the future development, to establish new geological technical measures for production wells and to make a new economic assessment of the reservoir. For this particular structure, the main hydrocarbon reserves cand be found in Miocene (both petroleum and gas reservoirs), Pontian (gas reservoirs) and locally in Dacian (small gas reservoirs) [1]. Following the correlation of geophysical data, the Miocene was divided into a series of complexes, from M8 to M1 which are separated by marly formations with variable thickness. The initial estimation for fluid contacts was done following an analysis of the data obtained from production. The reservoir model suggests the existence of several major hydrodynamic units: petroleum and gas reservoirs from M8 to M2, as well as gas reservoirs in M1 and Pontian. Because the reservoir model shows a discrepancy between the estimated resource and the cumulative extract, we suggest the possibility of some vertical fluid communication on certain intervals from the apex of the structure to the flanks. Based on pressure and temperature measurements done in the initial phase of extraction, we have established the values for the pressure and temperature gradients and the initial pressure and reservoir temperature for the productive formations. After the current study was concluded 4 new wells were drilled, 3 of them showing good results. Based on the new information from these wells we propose the drilling of another 2 wells, given that the productive areas have increased, especially for the gas reservoirs, by the discovery of new reservoirs and the increase of the existing ones.
