Abstract

The study was conducted during 2015 in the region of Rahovec in Kosovo. The aim of the study was to identify weed species, the impact of total herbicides dose, and mechanical weed control on the floristic composition in vineyards. Two different total herbicides with different doses in a randomized block design were applied in the vineyard, namely Basta (a.i glyphosinat-amonium) and Touch-down (a.i glyphosate), and two additional treatments included mechanical weed control and the control treatment (without herbicide and mechanical weed control). Thirty days after the herbicide application and the mechanical weed control a floristic composition for 1 m2 was recorded. At the end of the vegetation aboveground dry biomass of weed was estimated for each replication on an area of 1m2. A total number of 21 weed species were documented in the vineyard. Number of weed species in treated plots ranged from 7-12, while in plots with mechanical weed control only 6. The dominant weed species were: Xanthium strumarium 20.8 plants/m2, Bifora radians 12.5 plants/m2, Chenopodium album 10.3 plants /m2, Lamium amplexicaule 5.3 plants/m2, Fallopia and convolvulus 3.5 plants/m2. The average weed number on the control plots was 66.3 plants/m2. The broad-leaf weeds constituted (81.0%) of the weeds and grass weeds (19.0 %). In all treated plots, herbicides and mechanical weed control significantly reduced the number of weeds and aboveground dry biomass of weeds in comparison to the control treatment. Therefore, from the agronomist?s perspective, mechanical weed control might be appropriate to reduce the risk of yield loss and may finally cause less negative effects on the environment and on species diversity.
