NEUTRAL POINT TREATMENT IN THE MEDIUM VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS
Abstract
The interruptions in electrical energy supply are unplanned events, determined by faults of the distribution network?s components, lightning strikes or unauthorized interventions in the distribution networks. Insulation faults, occurring in medium voltage networks, produce transient regimens with overvoltages/ overcurrents of very high values, produce large requests of network, switching equipments, generators and telecommunication systems. Because of this, the neutral point of the secondary transformer in the medium voltage distribution networks requires a reference point for the three-phase voltage system by connecting to the ground (directly, through resistor or reactance). The method of treating the neutral of medium voltage networks substantially reduces the electrical requests (overvoltages, overcurrents) of the distribution network / equipment and is one of the factors contributing to the continuity of electricity supply to consumers. The solution of the earthing system is done on the amount of energy supplied, the type of the network and the regulations specific to the distribution operator (voltage level, maximum values fault current, insulation coordination). This study presents a brief presentation of the technical solutions used for neutral point treatment in the medium voltage distribution networks and analyzes the results obtained by the ENEL distribution operator in Romania by applying a new solution.
