EVALUATING THE ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABLE WORKFORCE POLICIES IN THE POST-INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY
Abstract
By moving towards a circular and low-emission economy, organisations become important actors in the implementation of resource-efficient and sustainable development. This study analyses the economic and environmental benefits of sustainable work policies and internal management practices of organisations based on circular economy principles. The study highlights that a work environment designed to optimise resource use, reduce environmental footprint and promote -green thinking- forms the basis for both the competitiveness of companies and the sustainability of society. In organisations where sustainable work practices are implemented and the work environment is perceived as -green-, employees are more likely to engage in environmental initiatives and act in a resource-efficient manner. Organisations that do not ensure a sustainable work-life balance for employees may undermine the potential of an environmentally conscious work environment and its integration into the organisation-s sustainability system, as the risk of burnout reduces employee engagement in resource-efficient behaviour and circular economy initiatives. This study extends the existing empirical base by analysing how internal organizational policies and an environmentally conscious work environment can contribute to both economic performance and the quality of environmental management. The developed analytical framework evaluates the sustainability of the work environment as a microeconomic mechanism for the implementation of the circular economy. It shows that sustainable organizational systems improve operational efficiency by implementing data-driven resource monitoring, energy and material management systems, as well as work organization solutions that reduce resource losses and emissions. The results indicate that there is a positive relationship between sustainable work policies in organizations and the implementation of circular economy principles, promoting the ability of organizations to integrate environmental responsibility into management processes.
