INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS IN METALLURGICAL INDUSTRY: EVOLUTION, MEASUREMENTS AND TRENDS
Abstract
The concept of the innovation ecosystem is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. Governments and industrial enterprises are trying to create innovative ecosystems that help to maintain the competitiveness of the enterprise, saving its high position in the regional and national markets. The industry innovation ecosystems require special study, because they are based on a multi-level system linking science, technology and business. Using the integration of the systemic and synergetic approaches, network theory, expert assessment methods, quantitative analysis methods, value approach, allowed to assess the influences of the innovation ecosystem on the evolution of metallurgical business models. Russian metallurgical ecosystem was selected as a case study. This study found that metallurgical ecosystem performs well in science and technology, and may have new development pathways that originate from basic research and technology rather than from duplicating technologies and low-cost production. This article highlights the needs for more systemic and widely analyses of the innovation ecosystem in metallurgical industry and for policymakers to give greater attention to these insights in planning regulatory and other supporting initiatives, with the promotion of innovation in mind.
