PRE-DECONSTRUCTION ASSESSMENT OF BUILDING PRODUCTS FOR REUSE IN CIRCULAR CONSTRUCTION FRAMEWORK
Abstract
The construction sector generates substantial amounts of waste and still largely operates within a linear model of resource consumption. In response to increasing environmental pressures, circular construction has gained importance as an approach that extends material life cycles, reduces waste generation, and limits the demand for new raw materials. In this context, the reuse of building products represents a promising strategy for improving resource efficiency and supporting more sustainable end-of-life management of buildings. This paper examines pre-deconstruction assessment as a means of identifying products with reuse potential before dismantling begins. The study aims to assess the reuse potential of selected building products within a circular construction framework through a model-building case study. The research is based on pre-deconstruction planning, an inventory of building products derived from project documentation, and an evaluation of selected products with regard to their environmental characteristics, accessibility, position in the structure, and type of connection. The findings highlight several factors affecting the reuse potential of building products and point to the practical relevance of pre-deconstruction assessment in end-of-life decision-making. The paper shows that this approach can support more effective material recovery and contribute to the implementation of circular economy principles in construction practice.
