SIMULUATION OF A PV POWERED ENERGY COMMUNITY EQUIPED WITH THERMAL STORAGE
Abstract
The significant growth of the global population that has happened in the last years strains even more the present fragile balance between the produced and consumed resources, if the current rate of development is to be maintained without change the harmful and the negative effects caused by the global warming will only amplify. The increase of the water level, the desertification of fertile lands and the greenhouse gas effects are only a few of the problems we already need to resolve, because of this the transition towards low-emission energy sources becomes a necessity. The dwindling fossil fuel reserves and the constant need for more energy production to support the expanding economy sector drive humanity to look for alternatives to the classic energy sources and tools to reduce the energy consumption. One such tool that can reduce the reliance on classical energy sources is represented by the energy communities (EC). An EC is represented by a group of prosumers, consumers or investors that invest in renewable energy sources and use the produced energy in order to obtain financial benefits. While the renewable energy sources (RES) such as solar and wind power prove to be good alternatives for energy generation, they are strongly influenced by the weather conditions and can be unreliable at times. In order to counter the volatile nature we can combine them with energy storage systems represented in this study by the BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) and the TESS (Thermal Energy Storage System) or implements forecast tools for the weather, production and consumption of energy in order to maximize the available resources to the community.
