THE INFLUENCE OF OIL CONTAMINATION ON THE BARLEY PRODUCTIVITY AND ENZYME ACTIVITY OF THE SOILS
Abstract
The influence of oil pollution on the set of indicators such as barley productivity, availability of macro- and microelements and also enzyme activity of the soils was profoundly investigated. The researched objects were the arable horizons of both leached chernozem and soddy podzolic soils, containing different amount of oil (2000 mg/kg, 3000 mg/kg). Besides, the ones without contamination were revealed. The higher is the dose of pollution, the higher is the average pH value. According to the studies conducted, oil pollution significantly affected the growth and development of the plants [1], [3]. Nevertheless, the amounts of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium in plants have been scrutinized and are considered to be optimal. The oil pollution significantly influenced enzyme activity of the soil, the dehydrogenase enzyme, in particular. Meanwhile, the activity of hydrolase class enzymes, such as urease and phosphatase, decreased accordingly increasing the contamination degree [4]. The agrochemical and biochemical properties of the soils were not considerable affected.
