THE FUTURE OF OIL AND GAS FIELDS DEVELOPMENT ON THE ARCTIC SHELF OF RUSSIA
Abstract
The article depicts natural potential of the Arctic territory, provides shares in fuel and energy and mineral resources extracted in the Arctic region of Russia. An importance of arctic oil and gas projects for Russian and the World economies has been noted. It has also been noticed that localization of equipment production and the development of technologies aimed at the offshore oil and gas extraction in the Arctic region of the Russian Federation may become a driver to stimulate import replacement, as well as to attract the investments in Russian oil and gas complex. It is indicated that the only Russian active project related with production of hydrocarbons on the Arctic shelf is Prirazlomnoye field. Its location, the volume of reserves and the new technological scheme of the project development allowing significantly increasing of oil production have been characterized. Additionally new logistics scheme of oil transportation of the arctic fields has been examined. Gasprom Neft Company has developed this scheme. It is noted that further development of Russian Arctic oil and gas fields has being compromised due to the fall of raw hydrocarbons worldпїЅs prices and due to persistence in terms of foreign policy challenges. It has been concluded that due to deterioration of explored onshore deposits, some escalation of competitive struggle for the Arctic shelf resources and transformation of the Arctic into one of the key resources regions of the World is inevitable. Consequently, in order to prevent the loss of the positions in the North region, Russia should force the activity related with hydrocarbon extraction in the Arctic attracting to these project considerable investments. It has been noticed that the development of the Arctic is feasible to study considering the development of neighboring areas and focus on cooperation with other countries in the Arctic region and considering cooperation with other countries of the Arctic region. An example of efficient cooperation of Russia and Norway in the field of equipment production for offshore projects has been provided.
