STUDY OF THE WINTER EXTREME WIND IN THE BLACK SEA IN THE CONTEXT OF THE CLIMATE CHANGES
Abstract
The impact of the extreme atmospheric conditions in the context of climate changes is a topic often studied at a global scale. The aim of the presented work is to analysis the extreme wind condition at a much smaller scale represented by the Black Sea area. For this perspective, the presented paper presents a comprehensive picture of the extreme atmospheric conditions along the coastlines of Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine. More precisely, eight geographical locations were analyzed, together with a spatial analysis. This study implies analyzing the 10-meter wind speed (U10) during the winter season which was considered a six months interval between October and March. As regards the data considered in this study, two different data sets were analyzed. Both data sets were provided by the Regional Climate Model (RCM) from Euro-Cordex database (EUR-11) and covers 30-year of data. The first data set, Euro-Cordex historical, covers the interval 01 January 1976 to 31 December 2005 while the second, Euro-Cordex scenario RCP 4.5, the interval 01 January 2021 to 31 December 2050. Based on these data an extended analysis of the extreme wind events in the Black Sea basin during the winter season has been performed.
